The film follows Amy Mayfield, a student at Alpine University who struggles to complete her thesis film on urban legends - only to have her crew members fall prey to fatal 'accidents.' Suspicious, Amy investigates and discovers a much more sinister hand at work. Now she must unmask the killer before she, too, becomes an urban legend.
This film isn’t as bad as I remember. It’s plot is ridiculous and cliche throwing in as many red herrings as possible and really has nothing to do with any Urban Legends. I am sure it helped sell the script and get green lighted faster or might have been an original script brought into to be a squeal.
There are only two real connections to the original. One is Loretta Devine’s character and a surprise at the end.
The film has no real sense of tension or suspense. The deaths aren’t that impressive and run on the side of the ridiculous.
The film tries to have a bunch of in jokes for movie fanatics. That just lay there. What the movie does have going for it, is it’s cast. Who give it all they have. They all give energetic performances (Especially Anthony Anderson) Of course the supporting performers have the more interesting characters and give off a lot more charisma. Eva Mendez is noteworthy as one of her first big roles and even here she is still the sexy siren.
Where as the leads played by Jennifer Morrison and Matthew Davis are kind of dull and we spend most of our time with them. Matthew Davis the lesser of the two as he comes off as charmless and the only reason he might come off as charming is because of the filmmaking.
The film even takes advantage of the identical twin story, that just seems stupid but fits in with this film. As this is more of a horror film that carries an R Rating but is more for teenagers. Whom haven’t really experienced a hard horror film. This is a horror film for beginners.
One thing I remember from seeing this in theaters. Is that John Ottoman the director was an editor and did music scores also, usually for director Bryan Singer’s films. I also remember laughing at this film a lot unintentionally.
I remember that Eva Mendes before she became famous was really hot and should have played the lead. I couldn’t take my eyes off of her on screen and was disappointed when she wasn’t in the film.
Anthony Anderson is too good for this film. He is believable and the funniest intentional person in the whole film.
The film is an ok time waster notice I didn’t say a good one. This film is better constructed than the original and is fun if only because it takes place more On A film set and film school so plenty of inside jokes.
This is one of those few films where it’s better than the original. Not by much but definitely better out together and more entertaining. Even if it’s a filmy that has the old twin brother of someone dead coming to help and be kind of a love interest. Where you are never quite sure whether to trust them or not.
The killer is still silly and weak but includes a clever wink to the original film.
Again this film is tricky with it’s tone but is directed stronger. So we can tell where it is truly supposed to be suspenseful and when it is going more for comedy.
Again some up and coming actors in early roles. Though this films cast is less model-esque. Though Eva Mendes brings a sexiness to her supporting character in the film.
Anthony Anderson is hilarious and energetic and steals all of his scenes.
The only returning cast member is Loretta Devine. Who gets just as much screen time here and is one of the few joys that the previous film had as well as this one.
The movies they are making In this movie look horrible. Though that seems to be part of the fun.
While this film is a step up it still comes off as bland at times. Never reaching the potential it could. But at least it keeps moving along forward hoping that nothing sticks that makes you think Too hard. As any times there is a question of logic another big scare or revelation comes to try and make you forget what came before.
