  1. Do you think we can consider 12 Years a Slave a horror film? At its most basic level it's about a man abducted and forced through a world of torture until finally escaping. We the audience are subjected to it in revulsion at the existence of these things. And the fact that it's a true story doesn't alter that; Amityville Horror is *ostensibly* based on a true story. It's certainly got nobler intentions than your average exploitation torture porn or something like that. But I think it functions differently from other movies about slavery where it's not about the triumph of the human spirit or anything; it's just a descent into hell -- a hell that happens to have really existed. The audience is shocked by the atrocities presented.
Watching it, I started thinking "what makes this different structurally from a horror movie?" And I came to the conclusion that maybe it really is a horror movie; it's horrifying after all. A movie doesn't need to have a human centipede in it to be "horror" in my mind.

  2. I agree, Though i wouldn't call it a full fledged horror film if only for the fact that it is more of a historical drama. Though i agree that this and Even PARADISE: LOVE a film that kind of delves into a exploitation of Africans by White Female Tourists. That they need the money and anren't forced. so what i akm saying is that while it can be considered a horror film. Most won't,
