Claire is about to get married, but her bachelorette party quickly spirals out of control.
This film first of all is brought to you by the guys who specialize in spoof movies like MEET THE SPARTANS and EPIC MOVIE this film is more an original idea though it feels like a film that like their spoof movies seems to borrow elements of many different films and try to put a spin on them.
This film could be easily described as a female version of THE HANGOVER. Though instead of piecing together the night we see it in a linear narrative as it begins and keeps going while booze and drugs affect the behavior and the situations the characters find themselves in.
The film more relies on shock and dirty humor to get laughs. Unfortunately most of the time it seems like they are trying to hard to get a laugh or reaction out of the audience that takes all the humor and sting out of it. It doesn't help that most of the comedic situations are predictable and you can see the punchline coming. Again half of the norms seem to have a more shocking then funny ending.
The film seems more to be raunchy to be raunchy. No real reason other then as a bachelorette party gone wrong taking place in Las Vegas it is to be expected. As far as I know the advertising doesn't make it seem like a sex farce or anything like that, but I can see it as a movie teenagers at least of my generation would have rented at the video store with certain expectations and would have been heavily disappointed.
As even if the film wasn’t good and most sex comedies weren't. At least they had the more exploitive material to entertain young minds going through puberty.
The film also takes the form of being filmed like a found footage movie. Which also reeks of trying to be trendy then really needed. While the aspect of having women dong all the bad and wrong behavior is a novel idea and watching the female characters is fun as all four of the actresses really commit and show bravery for half the acts they have to do throughout. I just wish they had a better film to be in so it would be worth it in the end.
If I had to pick one MVP of the film it would have to be actress Crista Flanagan as Janet, She makes her character and the scenes where she is at the forefront hilarious and just the reactions she has especially after the ambulance was one of the few times I smiled watching this film.
I can't say that the film is without laughs. Though half the time I laughed it was more due to something unintentional. This is a movie that maybe you will enjoy if you are as messed up watching the film as much as these characters get during the movie.
It is nice to see them moving on from their usual type of films towards a more traditional type film. Rather then just stay in the spoof genre, but they are still up to the same tricks by still taking more inspiration by what is hot at the box office or following whatever trend and seeming to leech off of them. Which wouldn't be so bad as they aren't the first to do it, but they make it so obvious and add really nothing to it. Even while taking the opportunity to offer a different take.
The humor is more shock and revulsion the. Is really necessary and doesn't add to the film at all. As the humor seems more mean spirited then anything. Never really adding joy or making any situation that much more humorous.
Though spontaneous the film never gets over the fact that everything feels and plays as staged so at no time do you really believe the film is off the cuff as the filming would have you believe. As it never gives you that divide.
While the movie at times relies on sex and get's risqué. I find it interesting that he filmmakers actually don't involve any of the main characters having it not showing any nudity. Which is a welcome change. They talk about it and are all around it, but the film never cheapens to have their characters have any of it on screen, or all of a sudden get naked for no reason. The film has some kind of respect for it's main characters even if for no one else. Including the audience.
