Things go drastically wrong for a group of British holidaymakers in Spain. After meeting at a nightclub in a Mediterranean resort, seven young adults decide to continue partying aboard a luxury yacht in the middle of the ocean. But when one of them dies in a freak accident, the others argue about what to do, which leads to a ruthless fight for survival.
This seems like a story stemmed around a title. Because while the event in the title does occur the rest of the film is built around it and does deliver good entertainment. But for some reason does seem to be lacking in many ways
A donkey punch is when two people are having intercourse in the doggy style position right when the male is about to climax he punches his partner in the back of the neck to supposedly heighten the experience and make the partner who has been punched muscles constrict.
The story here is 3 females who are on vacation in spain are having fun when they meet 4 guys in a bar and decide to party with them on a yacht and sail out into the middle of the ocean where they drink and drug until finally tow of the girls decide to have an orgy with 3 of the guys and end up killing one of the girls not knowing what to do they decide to dump the body after that no one trusts anyone as they constantly double cross and turn on each other.
As with some thrillers the problem with this film is we instantly have no sympathy for any of the characters they all seem to be dumb and mean. The guys seem untrustworthy from the start not to mention the girls just meet these guys and are not only going to go on there boat but let them sail into the middle of nowhere. Away from any nearby land.
Then we are supposed to be surprised when they quickly turn on the girls.
The film tries and so do the actors but when making a movie there shouldn’t be any trying it should be professional and believable. This film doesn’t totally fail and is interesting I just wish the filmmakers would have made more of an effort for the audience to feel some kind of emotions for the characters or at least a character. It is a interesting premise not a original one but a interesting one.
One of the main problems is this film seems to want to be taken seriously but it’s title and advertising and first 30 minutes seem more exploitive then anything else. There is full frontal nudity form both sexes but the sex scene seems more at home in a porno. It feels dirty I mean sometimes situations like this happen and I’m no prude but it all seems a bit much.
I would say it reminds the audience of the film DEAD CALM. Only less intense and a bigger cast to pick them off in more violent ways one by one. Though also by having a bunch of characters it makes situations a bit more believable if only for making decisions as a group and then showing the individual characters anguish.
As it is bad enough the title is used to entice viewers to think it is one type of film and becomes a kind of dirty joke for a set-up for a claustrophobic thriller. That we have seen the same situation a few times by now, but at least this tries to be refreshing without necessarily being too smart.
I say, skip it
