ChromeSkull is the sequel to the 2009 horror hit "Laid to Rest." It brings back ChromeSkull, who barely escaped death in the first movie and is hell-bent on continuing where he left off... and forging a new path of terror and destruction.
I have to say first off this is the rare film that is actually better then the original. It’s still not a good movie but it is more entertaining. The first film seemed more like a grass roots starter film. Trying to create a new movie slasher franchise and apparently it worked. This film tries to answer some questions from the original by giving the character more of a backstory the only problem is that it feels like it was thought of very late or not originally intended like new writers came in tried to do some patchwork by adding their own ideas to the original formula and making it harder to follow.
The first films killings just seemed cruel and sadistic. The ones in this film are the same way but try to invoke some fun into the film along with some adrenaline tyope scares and thrills. It is still unnecessarily gory that look both real and fake at the same time and unnecessary.
I am glad they added some minor star names to the film. Brian Austin green actually gives a pumped up performance that is overacting but it is just what the film needs.
While it is better it is also just as sad as the victims and even surviviors just seem doomed and it is one of the saddest horror films I have ever seen. There seems to be no joy at all in this film. Which makes it more interesting. As I said before it wisely goes the route of other horror films such as HOSTEL and ‘SAW series where they explain or giving more details of a backstory that stuff would be more interesting if they explored it in depth. I just think that by the ending it’s obvious they are not only going to continue the saga but bring it into a new location for cheaper and easier production values and also keep the series going and reveal more of the backstory at the same time.
If you are a fan of the original you will enjoy this one. If you like horror more for the gore then anything else you will enjoy this film. IF not this will be a waste of time to you. I watched it in the morning and it felt just too much over the top for me to really enjoy or even get into.
