DAY NIGHT DAY NIGHT (2006)
Written & Directed By: Julia Loktev
Cinematography By: Benoit Debie
Editor: Michael Taylor & Julia Loktev
Cast: Luisa Williams
This isn’t your typical American suicide bomber film. It Doesn’t focus or have a opinion on politics. It’s not either for or against the war in fact you don’t even know who is really behind this plot. What you do get is a character driven thriller that really focuses on one character and her experiences while waiting to become active. All the steps, training and precautions are documented.
During the beginning of the film there isn’t much dialogue but the film manages to say so much you catch little glimpses of the characters former life without revealing anything really.
The second half of the movie is just intense suspense. You don’t know what’s going to happen as your mind goes through all the possibilities and you prepare for the worst. The scariest thing about the film is the fact how easily this scenario could happen even with all of the surveillance and terror alerts.
Kudos to director Julia Loktev this is a clear cut, Clean, moody and simple film that truly answers no questions but forces you to think and sympathize. Some studio should definitely give her a contract or a budget to develop original projects
The performance by Luisa Williams is virtually a one woman show of vulnerability, sadism and bravery. I hope to see more of her work in the future as well as the director’s work which proves that you don’t need a big budget or large cast to accomplish and be successful with emotions and thrills.
A Minor Masterpiece full of ideas.
