This film is a quirky for it’s own sake while mixing in dramatic scenes but the quirk becomes annoying really fast and the filmmakers realize this and thankfully soon becomes more about drama and the issues of the main characters have with each other and themselves.
The film reminds me of LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE but thankfully this movie doesn’t go nearly as over the top as much as that film does though it retains a similar cast member Alan Arkin. The person who really steals this film is Emily Blunt. She is magnificent as the more troubled sister. Where as Amy Adams is a good actress but Doesn’t really strike a chord with me. She’s capable and believeable in her role and seems eager enough but has no charisma in the role for me to really care about her.
Luckily the film has it’s own identity and manages to rise to the occasion as a good story and interesting in parts. Not formulaic in the studio sense. It’s a odd one but it entertains.
The film is about two down and out sisters who are working menial jobs. Who come up with a business to clean up crime scenes to make more money. One is a single mom still sleeping with her married high school sweetheart who as a cop steers her and her sister into the business. The other sister is a damaged girl who sleeps around to just feel something.
The film is a Good rental.
