17. EVERYBODY WANTS SOME

I like the film. It's fun a boy's club type of film that has artistic ambitions in it's simpleness that hides itself and is just a film examining life for the ensemble First taste of freedom, finding yourself in a group of alpha males and competitive. nothing gets too out of hand. The characters are constantly moving on their feet.

The film ends up feeling like a detailed memory of nostalgia or like a home video. The film is an unknowing beefcake movie that will appeal to women if only for the attractiveness of the actors as well as many gays. It seems to be the magic mile of the year except that it is also really well made. Rarely playing a false note as the film seems to be mostly about camaraderie and discovery

16.  THE LOBSTER

15 THE NICE GUYS

Though more noted for LA LA LAND where he plays the more conventional and offbeat leading man. Here everyone brings their a game while also coming off comfortable Russell Crowe gets to be the likeable tough guys and show humor and a gruffness and Ryan gossiping gives a hard boiled comedic performance that has a lot of physical comedy. So that he comes off as a lighter. Buster Keaton or Charlie Chaplin and the film uses him to great effect and knows how to sue him.

Like all crime stories this film is all about language and placement. Everything here doesn't seem designed but out there for a reason for the best use of services and quality

14. SWISS ARMY MAN

Probably the strangest film in the list to try to give us a definition as to loneliness, survival and the truth meaning of love. While Also having the courage to be a child's fantasy of a stranded island experience. As well as juvenile humor that allows for some perverseness but also a innocence.

13. THE HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE

12. THE LITTLE PRINCE

11. HIDDEN FIGURES

10.  THE JUNGLE BOOK

My appreciation of this film might be because like half of it's intended audience I have never seen the original animated version. I know the main song and have seen scenes, but it never had a childhood influence or power over me. Where it was part of my childhood other then knowing some of the characters were used in the Disney cartoon show TAIL SPIN which I was a huge fan of and grew up with. So this and the state of the art technology together with a classic story is impressive and though using a live actor a child actor at that with real locations it mixed in with special effects animals voiced by actors. Makes this film almost animated itself. Not as light as the cartoon but still a strong and fun story of survival

9. HELL OR HIGH WATER

8. DEPALMA

7. GREEN ROOM

6. SING STREET

5. OJ: MADE IN AMERICA

4. MOONLIGHT

3. THE HANDMAIDEN

2. LA LA LAND

1. THE 13TH

Every little things she does is magic, so far for me. When it comes to Ava DuVurney.

While other directors do the same. You know what you are seeing is magic. Her talent is making the ordinary and simple magical and opening your eyes to the beauty of theirs Though this year her film is a documentary it is socially conscious and eye opening. It is also a statement of sorts. That can welcome debate and reform also. It might seem simple but it is also a dangerous film. That makes it exciting in all the right ways.

So close, These movies almost made the final list

AMERICAN HONEY

AMERICAN HONEY feels like the type of film where you understand and can see what is kind of being attempted, but maybe you are not tapping into the wavelength or maybe the director had too much lee way to do what they wanted as it feels overlong and not exactly hitting the point or translating unless that was the point. It's a work that is heavily influenced for an audience member like myself. As I am a fan of the director and the cast.

Though found myself smitten and captivated by  Sasha Lane, the lead as she is sow raw and natural definitely untrained and I see this as like when you have a crush. Where you are willing to give the person lee way in Certain things you don't know or understand where you find yourself questioning when they introduce something to you or an idea and you say to yourself i never thought of it that way but when you come to rationale thought you realize why. You find yourself more open to interpretation or open in general to try and impress and influence or make the person happy.
