VAMPIRE MOVIES

In honor Of TWILIGHT: NEW MOON being a success and Ruining a new era of moviegoers with it’s Romeo & Juliet with vampires storyline. I am rather tired of all this romanticism of vampires everywhere all of a sudden in books on television and in movies. Can a slasher get a hug. Vampires are always so Romantic, distinguished and classy sort of like the myth applied to Europeans. That I tend to like the films that give you more of a realistic portrayal. That look at it as more of a curse you have been infected with. That make it seem more like a drig addiction you have been infected with that you can’t quit or you die. One of the problems is that there has been plenty of films with vampires in them that don’t really feel like or to me count as vampire movies. I have decided to make a list of vampire movies that might be more entertaining then any TWILIGHT movies.

THE GOOD
- The Lost Boys
- Let The Right One In – if you haven’t seen it go now
- Near Dark – A Classic
- Thirst
- Blade 2
- Bram Stoker’s Dracula – Campy But I like the Design of the film and enjoyed it as a child and surprisingly still do
- Interview With the Vampire – Though the book is better
- Buffy The Vampire Slayer: The Series
- Angel: The Series
- Vamp
- Fright Night
- From Dusk Til Dawn

THE BAD
- Underworld 2 – Actually more enjoyable then the original but still more style then substance
- Blade
- My Best Friend Is A Vampire – Cute and Cheesy
- Buffy The Vampire Slayer: The Movie
- Shadow Of The Vampire
- Fright Night 2
- The Hunger
- The Addiction

THE UGLY
- Underworld – more style then substance
- Blade: Trinity
- Queen Of The Damned
- The Forsaken
- Innocent Blood – Good idea, Bad Follow Through
- Habit
- Nadja

  1. Where does Vampires fall in your rating system?

Myself, I don't really like almost any vampire films, but the best are not on your list. Both movies entitled Nosferatu are excellent.

The Herzog one especially portrays vampires in the only way that makes sense to me - as something primal and evil, a manifestation of pestilence, crib death, and evil in general. I don't see vampires as addicts any more than as Romeos - I see them as a monstrous incarnation of everything people fear in their guts; and that kind of vampire has rarely made it to film.
